Hon. Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz and Yooyili Pag-Dede Announce Two-Day “She Grows” Conference: Shifting from Charity to an “Engine of Empowerment” for Women in Agriculture

ACCRA, GHANA — Hon. Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, Member of Parliament for Savelugu and Founder of Yooyili Pag-Dede, has announced the inaugural “She Grows” Conference, set for May 30 – 31, 2026, in Pong Tamale. This landmark event marks a strategic shift in regional development, moving away from traditional charity models toward a self-sustaining “Engine of Empowerment” for 500 women across the agricultural value chain.

Yooyili Pag-Dede, established by the MP affectionately known as “Lady Fatahiya” embodies strength and purpose, reflected in its name, which translates to “The Backbone of Yooyili.” This community-driven foundation is dedicated to fostering inclusive empowerment within the Savelugu Constituency. The conference aims to transition women in agriculture—from smallholder farmers and processors to aggregators and agri-entrepreneurs—into formidable, market-ready brands within the modern “Green Economy.”

Recognizing that economic growth cannot exist without social and mental well-being, the conference is a comprehensive two-day program. While Day 1 focuses on technical agri-tech, branding, and market systems, Day 2 is entirely focused on Mental Health and Social Issues, addressing the “silent struggles” that often hinder women’s leadership and professional growth in the sector.

“Women are the backbone of our families and the entire agricultural industry, yet they often remain marginalized in the value chain,” said Hon. Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz. “Yooyili Pag-Dede is not a charity; it is an engine designed to recognize and enhance the essential role of women. We are providing women in agriculture,  and individuals with disabilities the tools, resources, and mental health support necessary to drive their own economic destiny.”

Key Highlights of the She Grows Conference Include:

  • Day 1: The Modern Agri-Economy: Featuring Tech & Innovation Stalls with cutting-edge digital farming solutions, drone technology, and mobile-based market data designed to bridge the rural resource gap for women across the sector.
  • Day 2: The Mental Health & Social Summit: A full day of safe-space sessions breaking the “Mental Health Silence.” These workshops will address the social and cultural pressures of leadership in agriculture and provide psychological wellness tools for women at all levels of the industry.
  • The Accessibility Pavilion: A dedicated space addressing the “double-marginalization” and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities by showcasing adaptive agricultural tools and inclusive professional techniques.
  • Value-Addition Workshops: Practical training for “Aggregators & Traders” and “The Processors,” focusing on local commodities such as shea butter and honey to move them from “Farm to Market.”

The event will gather industry titans, agri-tech pioneers, and community leaders to witness the transformation of Savelugu into a premier agricultural hub.

Yooyili Pag-Dede invites all corporate organizations, development partners, and stakeholders to join this mission to ensure high-impact visibility and direct engagement with the region’s primary stakeholders.

“The future of Northern Ghana is fertile, but it requires a collective investment in both the hands and the minds of those who drive our agricultural sector,” stated the conference organizing team. “We are calling on all organizations—from tech innovators to financial institutions and development agencies—to join us in digitizing the last mile and fueling this engine of empowerment.”
